Russia launches production of guided bombs that cannot be shot down – Ukraine’s Air Force
Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected one of the military plants and announced a production line for 2023 with plans to manufacture 1.5-ton bombs equipped with wings and GPS navigation
Ukraine’s Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat told about this during a telethon.
According to him, the Russian army is attacking with guided bombs along the entire front line – from the Chernihiv region to the south.
"There is a new threat that is difficult to respond to, to put it mildly. The enemy is using these guided bombs remotely. So far, with impunity. You need to understand that the aircraft can strike at a 50-km distance from behind the contact line or the state border of Ukraine, and from the sea. That's why there's no way to reach those warplanes," Ihnat emphasized.
Russia is using Su-35s to launch FAB-500 bombs (500-kilogram shells). There are about 10-12 of them every day. In this case, Ukraine can only counter the attacks by eliminating the fighters themselves.
"We can try to shoot down the bombs, but it is clear how much resources are needed to destroy them. Therefore, there is no other way out but to counteract the warplanes that drop these bombs," the spokesman explained.
According to Yuriy Ihnat, the Russian media recently reported on the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to the plant, where a line for the production of 1.5-ton bombs has been launched. They are likely to be equipped with wings and GPS navigation.
"1.5-ton bombs are three times more powerful. Once again, I emphasize that we need the means that can withstand them. These are Patriot and SAMP/T systems among the ground-based ones. And the best thing is modern F-16 or other Generation 4+ aircraft, which are able to counter Russian aircraft at long distances, have powerful radars and air-to-air missiles. This is the only way to counter this threat," Ihnat said.
