Russian army forces officials in Luhansk region to resign ahead of pseudo-elections – General Staff
Russian regime is trying to illegally integrate the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine into its socio-political space
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this in an evening briefing on August 14.
According to the General Staff, in Svatove, Luhansk region, occupying Russian forces plan to change the leadership of the local government. To do this, they demand that representatives of administrations and village councils resign from their positions "at their own free will". Thus, the occupiers plan to create so-called municipalities, which, according to their plan, should be headed by local collaborators following the results of pseudo-elections in the occupied territories on the single voting day in Russia on September 10.
Situation on the frontline
There were 11 combat engagements over the last day.
On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.
On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian forces launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 25 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.
In the Kupyansk direction, the Russian enemy conducted air strikes near Ivanivka and Zahryzove in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk region. The Russian forces shelled more than 15 settlements in the Kharkiv region with artillery and mortars.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian enemy attacked from the air near Bilohorivka in Luhansk region and Spirne in Donetsk region. Over 25 settlements in the two regions came under artillery fire.
In the Bakhmut direction, more than 25 settlements in Donetsk region suffered from enemy artillery shelling, and Russian airstrikes were carried out near Vasyukivka and Klishchiyivka.
In the Avdiivka direction, the Russian army attacked from the air near Avdiivka. Five settlements came under shelling.
In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defence forces are holding back the Russian offensive near Marinka and Krasnohorivka. The Russian forces attacked more than 10 settlements with aircraft and artillery.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian forces also shelled more than 10 settlements with artillery, and conducted air strikes in 4 areas of Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian forces attacked the area of Novodanylivka from the air. More than 20 settlements in Zaporizhzhia region suffered from enemy shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy launched an air strike near Olhivka. Over 20 settlements in the region and the city of Kherson came under enemy shelling.
The Ukrainian forces are continuing their offensive in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery operations.
Ukrainian forces target Ka-52 helicopter and Russian command post
Over the day Ukrainian aviation struck a Russian command post, 7 strikes were carried out on areas where Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated. Three more strikes were launched on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.
Ukrainian defenders also targeted an enemy Ka-52 attack helicopter.
Russian forces launch 12 missile and 67 air strikes
During the day, the occupying Russian forces launched another missile and air strike on the territory of Ukraine. The enemy used 8 Kalibr missiles and 15 Iranian Shahed-136/131 attack drones in Odesa region.
In total, the Russian army launched 12 missile and 67 air strikes, fired more than 40 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas of Ukraine. Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, there are killed and wounded.
Residential buildings, a shopping centre, a student dormitory, kindergartens, schools and other civilian infrastructure were also destroyed and damaged. The possibility of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high.
