Ukrainian woman takes her life to avoid collaborating with Russian forces in occupied Kherson
Despite years of temporary occupation, Russians are still trying to win over those who worked in Ukraine
Kherson City Council deputy Oksana Pohomiy spoke about this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Recently, in the left-bank part of Kherson region, the invaders tried to force a woman to cooperate with them. Once they start visiting someone, that person cannot leave the occupied territory. The Russians methodically came to this woman, but she refused to collaborate. She worked in the tax authorities. When the Russians came for the last time, she went to a store and bought paint. Neighbors saw her write in large letters on her house: 'Glory to Ukraine, Glory to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,' and after that, she took her own life," Pohomiy reported.
Such stories, unfortunately, happen, but they show that some people resist Russia even under these conditions.
It is known that during the occupation of Kherson, Russian troops set up a torture chamber in the police detention center, where people were tortured for hours. The police are now seeking help in identifying the occupiers responsible for these crimes.
Pohomiy said that some survivors are ready to testify and identify their torturers, although recalling these events is very difficult for them.
"Talking to women is especially difficult because they suffered violence on the same level as men. The occupiers raped and destroyed the humanity in people. There was a case where girls tried to save someone but did not expect it to be as horrific as described in books. They thought they could rescue the person, but in one of the torture chambers, a masked man came out and threatened them," she added.
- Recently, the Yellow Ribbon movement reported that in the temporarily occupied town of Tavriysk in Kherson region, Russians are forcing children to draw postcards and write messages of support for Russian soldiers.
