Ukrainian border guards assess possibility of Russian offensive in Sumy region
Ukrainian border guards do not rule out the possibility that Russia may recreate the offensive against the Kharkiv region in the Sumy region.
This was stated by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon.
"Of course, we should expect and be prepared for any situation in any direction, including Sumy. Following the example of what the Russians did in the Kharkiv region, in the direction of Lyptsi and Vovchansk, the Russians can unfold the same situation in the direction of the Sumy region," he said.
According to him, Russian provocations are aimed at extending Ukrainian forces at the front. However, Demchenko noted that so far the Russians are not preparing an offensive in the Sumy region.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces must be prepared for any situation.
"As of now, we do not observe that the Russians have enough forces to achieve any of their strategic goals, to move deeper into the territory of Ukraine. This is true both in terms of equipment and personnel. Of course, the enemy's forces may outnumber ours. Therefore, despite the fact that the Russians do not have enough of their own capacities, they can create the same kind of situation in the direction of Kharkiv region and Sumy region. We must be prepared for any situation," the spokesman emphasized.
- Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, said he expects a new Russian offensive in the Sumy region.
