Putin comments on events in Russia's Kursk region for first time
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin held a meeting with government officials and commented on the situation in the Kursk region, noting that Ukraine had allegedly made another provocation

"The Kyiv regime has made another large-scale provocation. It is firing indiscriminately, in particular, with rocket weapons, at residential buildings, civilian buildings, ambulances," the Russian dictator said.
He added that he has already instructed "a number of civilian agencies to help the residents of Kursk region" and that today he will discuss the situation in the region with the heads of security forces.
Acting Governor Alexei Smirnov also commented on the situation in the Kursk region, TASS reports.
He noted that he had reported the operational situation to Putin, who, in turn, promised to allegedly "support the Kursk region in all areas and keep the situation under his personal control.”
According to Smirnov, the situation in the Kursk region seems to be under control. Doctors from Moscow and St. Petersburg have arrived there, the acting governor added.
TASS also reported that Putin had instructed First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to coordinate the work on providing assistance to residents of the Kursk region, "the work should begin immediately.”
What is known about the events in the Kursk region
On August 6, the authorities of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly tried to break through the Russian border, but were allegedly pushed back. Later, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that "the Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group retreated to its territory.”
The Main Intelligence Directorate refused to comment on the statements regarding the Kursk region. However, NV media, citing its own source in Ukrainian intelligence, wrote that the events in the Kursk region "definitely did not involve fighters of the Russian Volunteer Corps, who are fighting as part of Ukraine's Armed Forces.”
On August 7, the Institute for the Study of War noted that the Russian Defense Ministry, acting governor of the Kursk region Alexei Smirnov, and some propagandists have different versions of the events in the Kursk region.
