U.S. starting to realize Ukraine is not the problem — Espreso correspondent at NAC meeting
Espreso correspondent Tetiana Vysotska reported that following the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of foreign ministers in Brussels, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that in a few weeks, it would become clear whether Russia is ready for peace
She shared the information on Espreso TV.
"For two days, while the NATO North Atlantic Council was meeting in Brussels at the level of foreign ministers of the Alliance, every minister's eyes were on U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It was Rubio's first visit as Secretary of State to NATO headquarters in Brussels. Everyone was interested in what he would say or whether he would make any new statements. So, Marco Rubio, as one diplomat said on the sidelines, ‘played the role of a good policeman in Brussels,’ meaning he made fairly balanced statements and was generally pleasant," the correspondent commented.
According to her, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that during a working dinner on April 3, Marco Rubio expressed support for all the statements and speeches made by the ministers during the meeting. In other words, the U.S. Secretary of State did not say anything behind closed doors that could be perceived negatively by Ukraine.
"The journalists were eagerly anticipating Marco Rubio's press conference, but there was only a briefing for a limited number of American media. As for Rubio's remarks, he made it clear that the United States recognizes that Russia is the one stalling the negotiations. The Secretary of State emphasized that if Russia continues to use delaying tactics, President Trump is not interested in it. 'We will not be trapped in endless negotiations,' Rubio stated. Instead, the world will soon know whether Russia is serious about peace. He mentioned that this would become clear in a matter of weeks, not months. There have been various suggestions in Brussels that Russia should be given a deadline to provide a clear answer on the ceasefire. However, the Americans have not yet set any specific deadline. What has become evident is that the problem lies not with Ukraine or individual Ukrainian figures, but with Russia," summarized Tetiana Vysotska.
