Unique Russian armored fighting vehicle Terminator-2 reportedly destroyed in Kurakhove direction
It’s still unclear if the BMPT Terminator-2 was fully destroyed or just damaged, but either way, this marks the first confirmed loss of such a vehicle in a year
This is according to journalist and military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko on Telegram.
He writes that the last verified incident involving am armored fighting vehicle Terminator-2 being destroyed or damaged dates back to 2023. There are unverified reports as well. For example, a BMPT Terminator-2 group reportedly came under artillery fire in May 2022 upon arriving in the combat zone, but this wasn’t confirmed. Videos showing damaged Terminator-2s have surfaced, though none specify the exact location.
This scarcity is partly due to the small number of BMPT Terminator-2s in service with the Russian army. But there’s another factor — the BMPT Terminator-2 is one of the most heavily armored vehicles in Russia’s arsenal, second only to the BMO-T. Its survivability surpasses that of any Soviet/Russian tank, explaining its relatively low destruction rate, even while operating close to the front line.
“In other respects, the BMPT’s performance has been mediocre, but the destruction of such a unique vehicle would be a significant event. We’re eagerly awaiting confirmation of the report,” Kovalenko writes.
