Defense Minister Umerov outlines three key defense goals for Ukraine and its allies
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that Ukraine must now focus on strengthening the country, increasing pressure on Russia, and coordinating security efforts
He shared the information on Telegram.
On April 3, Umerov addressed defense ministers from European Union countries at a meeting in Warsaw, held as part of Poland’s presidency of the EU Council.
Ukraine and its partners have a clear action plan aimed at forcing Russia into real negotiations.
Currently, there are three key goals:
- Holding the front line;
- Protecting Ukraine’s airspace by building a strong air defense system to safeguard cities, the economy, and the military;
- Expanding long-range capabilities to disrupt Russia's military logistics and weaken its offensive potential.
Additionally, Umerov stressed that Ukraine needs support in critical areas, including ammunition, long-range missiles, armored vehicles, aviation, and air defense systems.
He also emphasized the importance of the defense industry.
"We are open to joint projects — both under the Danish model and in other formats. Ukraine is also ready to invest in the defense industry of EU countries. Our strategic goal is full integration of Ukraine’s industrial base into the European defense ecosystem," Umerov said.
- EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas noted that European countries already supply more than half of Ukraine’s ammunition needs, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently estimated at 2 million shells.
