Russian forces continue to storm Ukrainian positions with dozens of armored vehicles
Ukraine's 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade has released a video showing their servicemen repelling one of the largest assaults by Russian forces, as reported by Defense Express.
The video demonstrates the coordinated efforts of artillerymen, attack drone operators, anti-tank sappers, and infantrymen in destroying Russian equipment and personnel.
The brigade reports that Russia used a total of 57 armored vehicles in an attempt to break through the defense in the Kurakhove direction in the Donetsk region. Despite the large number of vehicles, the Russian army failed.
The 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade stated that their soldiers successfully destroyed:
-
12 armored personnel carriers
-
8 tanks
-
9 motorbikes
-
1 buggy
-
36 Russian soldiers (with 32 more wounded)
According to Defense Express, this is not the first time recently that Russia has used a significant number of tanks and armored combat vehicles to storm Ukrainian positions.
For instance, on July 24, the brigade released footage of a major Russian assault involving 57 armored vehicles, including 11 tanks, 45 armored fighting vehicles, and one Terminator tank support vehicle. The attack also included 12 motorcyclists, with a total of 200 Russian soldiers.
Russian forces launched their assault from multiple directions. However, thanks to the effective actions of Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance units, artillery fire was accurately directed at Russian troops, and drone strikes were coordinated. Additionally, Ukrainian sapper units played a crucial role in destroying a significant amount of Russian weapons. In total, Ukrainian forces destroyed six tanks, seven armored fighting vehicles, and all the motorbikes involved in the assault. Russia's losses in personnel amounted to 40 killed and another 37 wounded.
After this attempt, Russia continued to assault the 79th Brigade's positions with smaller forces. On July 25, the brigade reported an attack involving three tanks and 13 armored fighting vehicles. During this assault, one tank and one armored vehicle were damaged, and another armored vehicle was completely destroyed. On July 28, the 79th Brigade's paratroopers repelled a Russian attack involving three armored fighting vehicles supported by a tank. The Russian tank hit a mine and exploded, and an FPV drone operator destroyed one armored fighting vehicle, forcing the others to retreat.
