Ukrainian defenders repel 33 attacks in a day, 52 combat clashes take place – General Staff

Over the course of February 8, 52 combat clashes took place at the frontline. Ukrainian Armed Forces fended off 33 Russian attacks

The  General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared the information in the evening report for February 8.

Russian attacks on Ukraine 

Russia launched 13 missile attacks, 54 air strikes, and 37 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, including children. Multi-storey and private houses, as well as other civilian infrastructure, were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline update

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. Russia launched an air strike near a settlement in the Kharkiv region. Over 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 attacks near the towns of Synkivka and Ivanivka, Kharkiv region, where Russian troops tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops. About 15 settlements came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers repulsed 3 attacks near Terny, Donetsk region, where Russian troops tried to break through Ukraine’s defense. They launched an air strike near the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region. About 10 settlements suffered from artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3 attacks near Ivanivske and Klishchiivka, Donetsk region, where Russian troops unsuccessfully tried to improve their tactical position. About 10 settlements came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders thwarted 17 attacks near Avdiivka and 5 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. Russian troops, backed by aviation, made attempts to breach the defenses of Ukrainian forces. They also launched an air strike near the town of Oleksandropil, Donetsk region. About 15 settlements were subjected to Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian troops keep holding back the Russian army near Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Despite 11 attempts, Russian forces, supported by aviation, were unable to alter the tactical situation. They launched air strikes near Kurakhove and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Russian artillery and mortar fire targeted six settlements.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russians did not launch any offensives. They carried out air strikes near Staromayorske and 2 more settlements in the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian defenders rebuffed an attack west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region, where Russian troops tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops to no avail. Russian troops launched air strikes near the settlements of Novodarivka and Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia region, and artillery and mortar attacks on 30 Ukrainian settlements.

In the Kherson direction, Russia persists in attempting to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River. One unsuccessful attempt to storm Ukrainian troop positions was made during the day. The city of Kherson endured Russian artillery and mortar fire. Furthermore, Russian troops  launched air strikes near 2 settlements in the Kherson region.

Strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian positions

During the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 7 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment.

Ukrainian missile troops struck 2 Russian ammunition depots and 2 artillery pieces.

  • There were 80 combat clashes on the frontline yesterday. Russian troops attempted to storm the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces 74 times.
