Ukraine's successful defense of Chasiv Yar under serious threat — military expert
Military expert, co-chair of the NGO Prava Sprava Dmytro Sniehyriov reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces control almost half of the city, but key defense points are occupied by Russian troops
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration is a key point in the further efforts of the occupying Russian army on the Donetsk front. They will attempt to break through the Ukrainian forces' defense on several fronts simultaneously. It is no coincidence that they have intensified fighting in the Toretsk sector, which is essentially a flanking route to Kostiantynivka. The activation of the Kupiansk sector, where Russian occupiers aim to advance along the Oskil River toward the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, is also part of this effort," explained Sniehyriov.
The expert added that after losing positions on the dominant heights in Chasiv Yar, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are struggling to maintain fire control over the positions of the Russian army.
"Active fighting continues in Chasiv Yar. Let's call things by their proper names. The Ukrainian Defense Forces control practically half of the city, but key points of the Ukrainian defense have been seized by Russian occupiers. Therefore, the successful defense of Chasiv Yar is now in serious doubt. Moreover, we should not forget that Chasiv Yar is a key dominant high ground that allowed the Ukrainian Defense Forces to hold off Russian invaders for a year. It also helped in keeping the Russian rear locations under fire control. Now, these dominant heights are under the control of occupying Russian forces, allowing them to maintain fire control over Ukrainian positions in Kostiantynivka and further along the front line," he added.
- On February 25, Andriy Polukhin, press representative of Ukraine's 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo, said that in Chasiv Yar, the Russian army was attacking both head-on and using small infantry groups.
- On Tuesday, February 25, 98 combat clashes took place on the Russian-Ukrainian front. Ukrainian troops repelled 25 Russian attacks in the Pokrovsk sector and 16 in the Kursk region.
