Ukrainian drone units destroy over 89,000 Russian targets in May — top general
The work to scale up unmanned aerial systems units is yielding real results. In May, Ukrainian drones of various types struck and destroyed over 89,000 Russian targets
Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported the information.
He held a monthly meeting on the use and development of drone systems with commanders of combat units.
“Systematic work to scale up drone units is yielding real results. In May alone, drones of various types struck and destroyed over 89,000 Russian targets,” Syrskyi stated.
The Commander-in-Chief reviewed an intelligence report on the formation of drone troops within the Russian army and the arrival of new UAV models and ground robotic complexes being supplied to the Russian troops.
In particular, the Russians are copying the experience of Ukraine’s Defense Forces and actively scaling up their own drone units, Syrskyi added.
“That’s why we must maintain the pace of development and continuously build our capabilities to stay one step ahead. We continue to increase the number of drone crews and develop our drone units. Every drone means a destroyed enemy and, consequently, a saved life of a Ukrainian serviceman. A special focus is on destroying Russian drone operators and their control centers,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
During the meeting, the development of unmanned ground systems was also discussed. According to Syrskyi, these systems perform logistical functions on the battlefield, evacuate wounded soldiers, carry out mining operations, and also serve as combat modules. He emphasized that compared to 2024, the supply of such systems to military units has increased several times, and training of unmanned ground system specialists has been intensified.
“I would like to thank all the unmanned systems units and each soldier individually for their professional combat work and destruction of enemies. You are at the technological forefront of our struggle. It is the development of technology that is the key to the sustainability of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and our advantage over Russia,” concluded the Commander-in-Chief.
