Robots might replace half of frontline troops, Ukraine’s Digital Transformation Ministry says
Robotic systems could potentially replace half of the military personnel on the front line, according to Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT Development Oleksandr Borniakov
He shared this update during his speech at the Odesa Economic Revival forum 2024 on September 13, as reported by Ukrinform.
“We are currently testing a concept at training grounds that could allow robotic devices to replace humans on the front line. Analysts estimate that around 70 people are needed to cover 1-2 kilometers of trench. With unmanned systems and robotic technology for tasks like mining, demining, and electronic warfare, we could reduce this number to 30,” Borniakov said.
He also noted the rapid advancement of technology.
“At the beginning of 2022, there were only three drone manufacturers in Ukraine. Today, there are about 700. Two years ago, seven companies produced electronic warfare equipment, now there are over 120. Additionally, there are numerous developments in artificial intelligence for demining,” Borniakov noted.
He encouraged investors to support this sector and expressed confidence that Ukraine would play a significant role in this market after the war.
“We are already discussing the potential for exporting our innovative technologies,” he added.
- On Saturday, August 31, Croatia announced it had transferred the DOK-ING MV-4 robotic demining system to Ukraine.
