Ukraine, US may sign security agreement in July — Ukrainian official
During the Munich Security Conference, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna, said that Ukraine and the US could sign a security agreement before the NATO anniversary summit in Washington in July
Ukrinform reported the information.
"Respective negotiations were held at the level of Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva. As you know, Andriy Yermak has been in contact with [US National Security Advisor] Jake Sullivan. That is, from a tactical point of view, the negotiations have been held, and the declaration has been strategically adopted. This decision can be made earlier," said the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration.
In particular, according to Stefanishyna, Ukraine is currently focused on more urgent decisions that the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian military need.
"We have to survive first, and then think about how to guarantee our safety," she said, adding that Ukraine is now focusing on the decisions to be made in March in the US Congress.
She emphasized that despite this, security guarantees between Ukraine and the United States will still be signed.
"We need to protect Ukrainian cities, we need the Patriots to have shells. And this is a matter of life and death. Therefore, we are concentrating on this. And security guarantees will definitely be signed," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
- At a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Munich, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that her country also seeks to join the agreements on security commitments to Ukraine as soon as possible.
- Later, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the signing of a security agreement with Ukraine, saying that it was in the final stages.
