Ukraine hopes large stockpile of Shahed drones destroyed after strike on Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield
Military expert Valerii Riabykh suggests significant damage to the Shahed drones stockpile and infrastructure in Russia's Krasnodar region
Military expert Valerii Riabykh, director of the Defense Express information and consulting company, discussed the powerful strike on the "Primorsk-Akhtarsk" airfield in Russia's Krasnodar region, which took place on the night of February 6.
While similar attacks have been occurring since July 2023, this one was the most significant yet, he said on the air of the Espreso TV channel.
Riabykh noted that the airfield had been in active use since Russia received Shahed drones from Iran, and since 2023, it had been a key launch site for drones targeting Ukraine. Given the importance of this location to Russia's drone operations, Ukraine’s defense forces have repeatedly targeted it.
"This strike was one of the most powerful in recent months, and we hope that it resulted in the destruction of a significant stockpile of Shahed drones, as well as the infrastructure supporting their launch," Riabykh said.
According to the Ukrainian Drone Systems Forces, the operation was carried out by the 14th Separate UAV Aviation Regiment in coordination with other Ukrainian defense forces.
Riabykh concluded, "We hope that this operation will reduce the enemy’s ability to use Shahed drones to terrorize the Ukrainian population."
- On February 6, Ukraine’s defense forces successfully struck the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield, which had been used by Russian forces to launch drones against Ukraine.
