Yuriy Romanyuk, an international affairs expert and head of Ukraine in NATO NGO, believes that after a "truce," the war will return to Ukraine in 3-5 years because Trump did not support Ukraine’s NATO membership and did not provide security guarantees

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

"U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth clearly told his NATO colleagues to prepare for the fact that the United States will not ensure their security, and that these countries must increase their budgets, purchase weapons, and strengthen their defense industries. European countries are vulnerable today, afraid, and unprepared to repel a Russian attack. They cannot properly support Ukraine because Trump has pulled the NATO umbrella from under them. If Trump imposes this so-called truce on us, I want to emphasize that this is not the end of the war but merely a pause," noted the head of "Ukraine in NATO."

According to him, in 3-5 years, the war will return due to Trump's concept of not admitting Ukraine to NATO and not providing security guarantees, shifting everything onto Europe.

"How can NATO member state governments, which want to help Ukraine, provide assistance when they know they have no protection and that the U.S. will not back them up? That is why we are entering this 'truce' without any security guarantees. Moreover, we are being forced into this capitulation and loss of subjectivity. Trump and Putin are turning Ukraine into an object of international lawlessness," Romanyuk concluded.

  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that the Trump administration does not yet have a ready plan to end the war in Ukraine, but work on it will soon begin.
  • On February 13, after a conversation with Putin, Trump called a ceasefire in Ukraine "possible in the not-too-distant future."
