Ukraine plans to cooperate with Japan in producing drones
During his visit to Japan, Ukrainian FM Andrii Sybiha has said Kyiv plans to develop joint drone and unmanned tech projects with Tokyo
He said this in an interview with Kyodo News.
"Now we are the leaders in the world in producing drones...We are ready to share, with Japan, our experience, and to cooperate in producing, for example, drones" that will be "mutually beneficial," Sybiha said.
He clarified that, given Japan’s legal restrictions on arms exports, the potential cooperation would focus on dual-use drones — for civilian purposes, including agriculture, as well as for reconnaissance.
In Tokyo, Sybiha also took part in a forum on Ukraine’s recovery with the participation of Asian countries. As a result of the event, the parties signed 29 cooperation agreements in various fields. During a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya, Sybiha reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness to further deepen bilateral relations, noting that Russia’s war “affects the Indo-Pacific region.”
On Tuesday, Sybiha, along with other high-ranking Ukrainian officials, will visit the World Expo in Osaka, western Japan.
- In June Ukraine signed an agreement with the Japanese agency JICA, under which Kyiv will receive $3 billion under the ERA initiative. The funds will be repaid from frozen Russian assets.
