Ukraine starts intercepting Shahed drones with FPV drones
Commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Vadym Sukharevskyi, revealed that Ukrainian troops have started using FPV drones to shoot down Russian Shahed drones
He shared this in an interview with Liga.net.
According to Sukharevskyi, Russia responds asymmetrically to every step taken by Ukraine.
“For example, when Shahed drones started flying toward us from Russia, we quickly established thousands of mobile fire groups, which proved highly effective. The Russians saw that their efforts were ineffective and began changing their tactics—adjusting altitudes and improving their drones. Our response? We are now using FPV drones to shoot down Shaheds, and this approach is already yielding real results. This is an ongoing technological race,” he explained.
Sukharevskyi emphasized that every Ukrainian military operation considers various intelligence inputs, including electronic warfare, Russian air defense, objective protection, and passive defense measures.
“For instance, the reinforcement of airfield structures, burying aircraft, or protecting fuel tanks. That’s why planning is crucial—there is no way around it,” he stressed.
- On the evening of February 25, Russian forces launched drones to strike Ukraine. As a result of the attack, two people were killed in the Kyiv region. In Kharkiv, a drone hit a residential building, causing injuries.
