White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated this, as cited by Sky News.

She announced that the planned talks between Trump and Putin on August 15 will be held in Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage.

“President Trump is determined to try to end this war and stop the killing. As the president has said again and again, his priority will always be focused on peace and partnership,” Leavitt said.

According to her, the meeting was proposed by the Russian side during the visit of the U.S. leader’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Moscow on August 6.

“The president is agreeing to this meeting at President Putin’s request. This administration has truly used every lever, taken all measures to achieve peace through a diplomatic solution,” the spokeswoman said, calling the purpose of the meeting “to gain a better understanding of how we can end this war.”

In response to reporters’ questions about whether Trump is prepared to walk out of the summit if Putin does not take it seriously, Leavitt said she “does not want to disclose private conversations.”

“The president deeply respects all parties involved in this conflict and trying to bring it to an end. I will not get ahead of any hypotheticals,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, CNN, citing White House officials, writes that the meeting will likely take place at the U.S. Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson, located near Anchorage. Organizers believe it would meet security requirements; however, the White House hopes to avoid the prospect of accommodating the Russian leader and his entourage on a U.S. military base.
