Trump realizes Putin lied about wanting peace, says Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron is convinced that U.S. leader Donald Trump now realizes Russian ruler Vladimir Putin lied to him when claiming he was ready for peace in Ukraine
That's according to Le Monde.
“I believe President Trump realizes that when Putin told him he was ready for peace, he was lying,” Macron said.
According to the French leader, Trump’s anger has become increasingly visible in recent hours. “What I want now is for that anger to be turned into action,” Macron added.
“What’s happening in Ukraine is unacceptable and extremely serious. We can’t say we’re ready to talk and then drop bombs. This double-speak reveals the inauthentic nature of the discussions that may have taken place,” he emphasized.
Macron expressed hope that the “outrage” voiced by the U.S. president will “translate into an ability by the United States, together with Europeans, to threaten a completely different and much more powerful sanctions package—one that could convince Russia and finally bring this conflict to an end.”
- On May 26, Donald Trump responded to another massive missile attack on Ukraine. In a post on social media, he said that Putin had "gone absolutely crazy." Russian state media, when covering the post, left that part out.
