Russian state media edits out Trump’s harsh criticism of Putin
On May 26, Donald Trump responded to another massive missile attack on Ukraine. In a post on social media, he said that Putin had "gone absolutely crazy." Russian state media, when covering the post, left that part out
24 Channel reports this.
Trump wrote that he used to have a "very good relationship" with the Russian leader, but now “something has happened” to him. He sharply criticized Putin, saying he's “needlessly killing a lot of people” and “wants all of Ukraine, not just a piece of it.” Trump warned that such ambitions could lead to Russia’s collapse.
The outlet Mediazona noted that pro-Kremlin media, while reporting on Trump’s post, skipped over the part where he called Putin “crazy.” Instead, they focused on Trump’s criticism of Zelenskyy in the post.
Russian outlets listed on the Yandex.News aggregator ran headlines like “Zelenskyy constantly creates problems for Ukraine with his statements,” ignoring the fact that most of Trump’s post was about Putin and Russia’s strikes on Ukraine.
RIA Novosti and TASS only mentioned that Trump “expressed dissatisfaction with Russia’s actions in Ukraine.” Kommersant quoted him as saying only that “something has happened” to Putin, cutting the sentence short. Only RBC included Trump’s full quote that Putin had “gone absolutely crazy,” placing it at the end of the article.
Trump’s comment about Russia’s possible collapse was also edited. “Trump claimed that the Russian authorities have a hypothetical desire to seize the entire territory of Ukraine, which could ‘lead to the downfall of Russia.’ He did not explain what he meant,” TASS wrote.
