Trump, Putin likely to hold phone talks next week — Witkoff

U.S. President's Special Representative Steve Witkoff announced that a phone conversation between Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is scheduled for next week

He stated this during the State of the Union program on CNN.

According to him, the U.S. president anticipates that the war in Ukraine could be resolved within weeks, with a call between Putin and Trump expected next week.

Witkoff noted that Putin has signaled he “accepts Trump's philosophy,” and both leaders support ending hostilities in Ukraine.

“The two sides are much closer today than they were a few weeks ago. We have narrowed the differences,” he commented.

Trump's special envoy also stated that American negotiating teams will meet with Ukrainian representatives this week, followed by talks with Russian officials.

  • On March 13, Alexander Lukashenko also visited Moscow and met with Vladimir Putin. 
  • On March 14, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that following Witkoff's conversation with Putin, “there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end.”
  • Meanwhile, on the same day, SkyNews reported that during his visit to Moscow, Witkoff waited eight hours to meet with Putin, who was engaged in talks with Alexander Lukashenko.
