Trump claims “very good chance” for Ukraine war to end, asks Putin to “spare” Ukrainian troops
U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media on Friday to claim that he had “very good and productive discussions” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine
Trump suggested that the war could soon come to an end but warned of a dire situation for Ukrainian forces.
“There is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end,” Trump wrote in his tweet. “AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION.”
The president claimed that he had personally urged Putin to spare the lives of the allegedly encircled Ukrainian troops. “I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II,” he added, ending the message with, “God bless them all!!!”
Ukrainian military sources have yet to confirm any such large-scale encirclement of their forces by Russian troops.
