Trump outlines 'preconditions' for Ukraine-Russia deal, says full ceasefire coming soon
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that a ceasefire in Ukraine will happen "very soon," adding that he expects an agreement to be reached on this matter
He mentioned during a briefing at the White House, as quoted by RBC-Ukraine and Suspilne, that a complete ceasefire in the Russian-Ukrainian war was expected to happen very soon. He added that there would be a contract and agreements, including the division of land, which were currently being negotiated.
Trump also outlined two "preconditions" for a ceasefire agreement. He explained that he was doing this for two reasons: first, because thousands of people were being killed every week, and second, because the United States had paid $350 billion for a war that shouldn't have happened, which he attributed to Biden.
At the same time, when asked by a journalist whether Washington plans to impose more sanctions against Russia because of its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, the U.S. president expressed hope for a ceasefire agreement.
- Earlier, an aide to the Russian leader, Yuri Ushakov, announced that talks between the Russian and U.S. delegations would take place in Riyadh on Monday, March 24.
- Shortly after, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Ukrainian and American technical teams would meet in Saudi Arabia on March 24.
- At the same time, Special Representative Keith Kellogg indicated that the United States planned to hold separate meetings with Ukrainian and Russian representatives in Saudi Arabia to organize indirect talks.
- However, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the Ukrainian delegation would only meet with the American delegation in Saudi Arabia, rejecting any possibility of negotiations with Russia.
