Trump gives Putin green light to continue war until fall — political analyst
Donald Trump administration is effectively giving Russian ruler Putin time to continue the war until at least the fall
Volodymyr Horbach, Executive Director of the Institute for North Eurasian Transformation, expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"Right now, it looks like the Donald Trump administration is giving Putin carte blanche to continue the war until the fall. They are not daring to impose sanctions against Russia. There is no pressure on Moscow. Instead, they keep repeating that they are waiting for something. The White House's excuse now is that since the parties are negotiating in Istanbul, there is no need to interfere in this process, as it may disrupt the negotiation process. Putin is simply taking advantage of this. Exchanges are slow, and a new round of negotiations is scheduled for June 22 in Istanbul," Horbach explained.
According to the political strategist, one should not expect tough sanctions against Russia from the United States before the fall. The Donald Trump administration is delaying the matter as much as possible.
"Before June 22, there will be a new delay from the United States, and then they will postpone it again to a new date, and then Congress will go on vacation, and a new bill on sanctions against the Russian Federation will not be adopted. By and large, any decisions from the United States should be expected in the second half of September. In particular, when Congress returns from vacation," he concluded.
In Canada, the next summit of the G7 countries will continue until Tuesday, June 17. A meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, is planned on its sidelines.
