'Gas transit in jeopardy': energy expert on possible fire at Sudzha station
Stanislav Ihnatiev, Head of the Board of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association, emphasized the need to evaluate the damage to the pumping station in Russia's Sudzha
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"It is now necessary to assess the extent of damage to this pumping station. However, it will become clear that in the event of significant losses, this would effectively mean the end of potential transit, particularly of Azerbaijani gas through Ukraine. There are other gas pumping stations bordering pipelines in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region, but for now, this was the only entry point through which the actual transit of Russian gas to the European Union has been carried out since 2014," Ihnatiev noted.
The Head of the Board of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association added that military experts will analyze who and what caused the explosions and fire at the gas metering station in Sudzha.
“There is a video that shows how the remaining balance gas in the network is burning up. However, the question is that this could give a new impetus to projects such as the Turkish Stream, which is currently operating at capacity, and Turkey is looking for ways to increase its capacity. It also strengthens the arguments that have been made by the White House about the revival of Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 with the assistance of the United States,” Ihnatiev emphasized.
- Russia baselessly accused Ukraine’s Defense Forces of shelling the Sudzha gas metering station.
