Most journalists and American television express shock and strong criticism of Trump and especially Vice President J.D. Vance, Ukrainian community says

Marta Farion, Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress in North America, Vice President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, and Head of the Kyiv Mohyla Foundation in the United States, spoke about this on Espreso.

"People believe this was blackmail and that President Trump had no intention of meeting or signing any agreement. Instead, they created a situation to provoke a clash. Vance’s actions were completely provocative - it was a trap for Zelenskyy. During a TV interview in Chicago, we noted that the visit began with a public conference, which was not appropriate. Zelenskyy came to sign an agreement or at least discuss mutual benefits regarding minerals, mining, etc. But instead of first discussing business and preparing for a potential signing, they started with a public press conference," she said.

Zelenskyy performed very well on Fox News, a network supporting Trump and his faction. However, the Ukrainian community in the U.S. is deeply concerned after the presidents' talk.

"People are calling each other, commenting. Many Ukrainians voted for Trump, and now it’s interesting to see their reaction to these events and his words. When I opposed him during the campaign, some Ukrainians were unhappy. But today, American acquaintances called me to apologize - they felt very uncomfortable," Farion said.

“All the leaders of European countries have sided with Zelenskyy. Everyone is shocked by such a deceitful level of action. Although Trump said during his campaign that as soon as he was elected, he would become a dictator. People laughed and said it was impossible, but we see that it happened. The relationship between the president of America and the president of Russia is strange. All journalists in the United States are talking about it. As for the Russian correspondent who allegedly came without permission, I think he was invited. Despite everything, Ukraine needs to prepare for cooperation with Europe,” Farion added.

  • On February 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a working visit. During a press conference, a dispute erupts between Trump, Zelenskyy, and US Vice President J.D. Vance.
  • Later, it became known that the joint press conference of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump was canceled after a dispute.
  • After the spat in the White House, European leaders and U.S. politicians began to express support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine.
  • Zelenskyy later gave an interview to an American TV channel, during which he commented on the situation with Trump, among other things.
  • Trump said that in order to return to negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must say that he is ready to make peace.
