Ukrainian army reports 79 battles along frontline, including 48 Russian attacks on Pokrovsk

Since the beginning of Thursday, April 17, 79 combat clashes have been recorded along the Russian-Ukrainian front, with the highest number of attacks carried out by the Russian troops in the Pokrovsk sector

This was reported by Ukraine's General Staff in a daily update.

Residents of the settlements of Velyka Pysarivka, Prokhody, Bachivsk, Stepok, Popivka, Vidrodzhenivske, and Studenok in Sumy region suffered from Russian artillery and mortar fire. In addition, Russian aircraft struck the areas of Turya, Krasnopillia, Myropilske, and Uhroidy in Sumy region.

Situation in key areas

  • Kupiansk sector: Russian forces carried out two attacks near Petropavlivka and Zahryzove.
  • Lyman sector: Nine Russian assaults were recorded near Nadiya, Nove, Novomykhailivka, and Yampolivka. Three battles are currently ongoing.
  • Kramatorsk sector: Russia is attempting to advance near Chasiv Yar, Kurdiumivka, and toward Stupochky. Defense Forces repelled three of five attacks; fighting continues.
  • Toretsk sector: Russian troops are trying to break through Ukrainian defenses near Toretsk, Ozarianivka, and Druzhba. Two attacks are ongoing, and four assault attempts have already been repelled.
  • Pokrovsk sector: Since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have made 48 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions near Sukha Balka, Stara Mykolaivka, Zelene Pole, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Novotoretske, Promin, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, Preobrazhenka, and Andriivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces held their ground and repelled 45 attacks, with three clashes still underway. Russian aircraft dropped guided bombs on Malynivka.
  • Novopavlivka sector: Ukrainian defenders repelled six enemy assaults near Kostiantynopil, Rozlyv, and Pryvilne. Oleksandrohrad, Voskresenka, and Novopil were hit by airstrikes.
  • Huliaipole sector: Russian aircraft fired unguided rockets at Huliaipole.
  • Orikhiv sector: Ukrainian troops repelled an attack near Mala Tokmachka. Stepove, Lukyanivske, and Kamianske came under airstrikes.
  • Prydniprovskyi sector: The terrorist state dropped glide bombs on the city of Kherson.
  • Kursk sector: Ukrainian troops repelled four Russian attacks. Russian aircraft dropped four guided bombs, and the Russian troops carried out 200 artillery strikes on military positions and settlements.

As of 4:00 p.m., no combat clashes were reported in the Kharkiv, Siverskyi, Huliaipole, and Prydniprovskyi directions.

  • Andriy Otchenash, commander of the Kara Nebesna UAV crew within Ukraine's 4th Rubizh brigade, noted that while Russian forces are massing equipment along certain areas of the frontline, the assaults themselves are "nothing new."
  • Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated 1,230 Russian soldiers and a number of Russian vehicles and weapons on the Russian-Ukrainian front.
