Shells, excavators, 10 Leopard tanks: Spain provides Ukraine with new military aid batch
Spain has begun transferring a new batch of military aid to Ukraine, including 10 Leopard 2A4 tanks, shells, and excavators
The Spanish Defense Ministry reports.
It is noted that the equipment to be handed over by the Spanish side has been repaired and maintained at the Santa Barbara Sistemas plant in Seville, as well as tested for technical serviceability.
The first stage of transportation from Seville to the city in northwestern Spain, Ferrol, was carried out by land last week, the press service reports. After that, for the second stage of transportation by sea, the aid ship left Ferrol at noon last Saturday, July 13.
The ship is expected to arrive at the Polish port by next weekend. Once in Poland, it will be transported by land to the nearest units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which will then transfer the weapons to the front line, the Spanish Defence Ministry said.
"Appropriate security measures are being taken at all stages of this important movement," the ministry said.
With this batch, the total number of tanks that Spain has transferred to Ukraine has reached 20. The next batch is planned to be delivered in the second half of 2024.
- On May 20, Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles said that a batch of Leopard tanks and ammunition would be delivered to Ukraine.
