What are the key factors behind Ukraine’s recent Pokrovsk front success?
Former Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine (2019-2020) Viktor Chumak suggested what might have laid the groundwork for Ukrainian successes on the Pokrovsk front
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
On February 16, changes on the front were reflected on the DeepState map: the Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated the village of Pishchane and an area near the settlement of Dachynske, close to Pokrovsk in Donetsk region.
"There can be several conclusions here, and they may be either incorrect or actually accurate. The situation is such that no army in the world can maintain the same level of pressure continuously. Essentially, frontline units become exhausted, and they need to be replaced, their losses need to be replenished, rotations need to happen, and supplies need to be restocked. The situation is such that if there is the necessary logistics, and it allows for quick action, then the pace of the offensive can remain the same. But here, the situation is likely not such. It’s more likely that we have enough weaponry, drones, shells, mines, and other resources to not only stop those attacking [Russian] units but also to significantly impact their logistics and prevent rotations and everything else," he said.
Viktor Chumak also suggested that Russian forces may be conducting a regrouping. According to him, such actions could also provide a foundation for counterattacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"And so, on the one hand, the Russians, of course, are getting exhausted because, as I said earlier, it is impossible to maintain such a high pace with the same forces. On the other hand, it is possible to assume, and this can only be confirmed by intelligence data, that they are conducting a regrouping. In both cases, successful counterattacks can be carried out. And these two successful counterattacks, most likely, are what we see on the maps today," added the former chief military prosecutor of Ukraine.
- On Sunday, February 16, reports confirmed that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had liberated the village of Pishchane, located five kilometers south of Pokrovsk.
