The German Chancellor said this in an interview with the ARD TV channel, Tagesschau reports.
“Yes, I have decided to talk to the Russian president at the appropriate time... But I am a responsible politician, I do not do this on my own,” Scholz said.
When asked when this dialog would take place, Scholz assured that it would happen soon.
According to him, a conversation with Putin requires the involvement of many contacts, as well as negotiations with many other politicians. Scholz also emphasized that this should be discussed with Ukraine.
Scholz's statement came amid reports of a phone conversation between Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
- Earlier, on October 16, Olaf Scholz stated that he was ready to talk to Russian leader Putin.
