Ukraine's Security Service confirms Russia's use of North Korean missiles
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has confirmed that Russia used North Korean Hwasong-11 missiles to fire at Ukrainian territory.
The SBU press center reports.
These are ballistic missiles of the Hwasong-11 type (KN-23/24), which are manufactured in the DPRK.
Law enforcement officials found that Russian troops fired more than 20 North Korean missiles at Ukraine. As a result, at least 24 civilians were killed and more than a hundred civilians were seriously injured.
"One of the first facts of the aggressor's use of DPRK ballistic missiles was recorded on December 30, 2023, during the shelling of Zaporizhzhia. The next strike with North Korean missiles was carried out in early January this year against an apartment building in Kyiv," the statement said.
In addition, the occupation forces hit residential buildings in five frontline villages in Donetsk region with DPRK ballistic missiles, killing 17 civilians. The Russian army also fired North Korean missiles at private homes of Kharkiv residents, killing 3 Ukrainians. More than 60 other Kharkiv residents were seriously injured.
SBU investigators documented these facts in the framework of criminal proceedings under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Art. 111-2 (aiding the aggressor state);
- Art. 438 (violation of the laws and customs of war).
Russia is attacking Ukraine with weapons from the DPRK

Recently, Vadym Skibitskyi, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, said that North Korea has already transferred approximately one million 122 mm and 152 mm artillery shells to Russia.
The independent research organization Conflict Armament Research (CAR) found that the missile used by Russia to hit Ukrainian Kharkiv on January 2 was manufactured in North Korea.
The head of the Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, later said that Russia intends to negotiate with the DPRK to increase the volume of arms supplies, with the greatest need for ammunition.
On February 7, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Robert Wood said that Russia had launched ballistic missiles made by North Korea at least 9 times into Ukraine.
