Russian offensives will take place along entire front - military expert
Military expert Dmytro Sniehyrov believes that Russia's priority is the Kupyansk-Lyman direction, where up to 120,000 personnel and 1,300 units of armoured vehicles are concentrated
He said this on Espreso TV.
"The Russian offensives will take place in all areas of the frontline. The enemy's priority, oddly enough, is the Kupyansk-Lyman direction, where up to 120,000 personnel and 1,300 armoured vehicles are concentrated. The point is that the invaders are trying to break through the Ukrainian defences near Bilohorivka and try to create an operational encirclement of Ukrainian troops near Siversk," the military expert commented.
According to him, Bilohorivka is interesting for Russia because of its dominant heights and 12 km to the triangle of industrial cities in the occupied territory of Luhansk region, Sievierodonetsk-Lysychansk-Rubizhne.
"In the Lyman sector, the main efforts of Russian forces are aimed at Bilohorivka, the Torsky ledge with the possibility of access to the Lyman, which is a key logistics hub of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy is trying to reach the Oskil River, so it is putting pressure in several places. Russia's priority targets will not be Kupyansk itself, but will try to break through to the flank near Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. The Russian task is to try to reach Izyum and from there hang over the Ukrainian flanks. There are several hotspots in the Bakhmut sector, besides Bakhmut, the main enemy's efforts are focused on Bohdanivka and Khromove, where they have some tactical success," he said.
Sniehyrov noted that the Russian forces are trying to bypass the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces concentrated in Chasiv Yar. "They cannot storm Chasiv Yar itself, because it is on the dominant heights, in fact, it will be a repeat of the storming of Vuhledar, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces completely destroyed Russian assault columns. In the area of Klishchiivka, we are on the dominant heights, which allows us to keep large areas of the occupied areas under fire control and prevent the occupiers from making any successful advance.''
"There is an advance in Avdiivka, it is Soborna Street, where the occupiers entered from the side of the Tsarske Selo hotel complex. Accordingly, several streets are currently under the enemy's control, and they will try to gain a foothold there. However, as long as we maintain free traffic, i.e. rotations, supply of medical supplies and evacuation of the wounded, the Avdiivka garrison will hold on. The Russian army's tactical success in the area of Soborna Street is not yet evidence of a critical situation. The invaders will make their main efforts towards the settlements of Stepove and Berdychi to gain control of the road. Let me remind you that the width of the corridor is now up to 6 km, which allows the Ukrainian Armed Forces to maintain normal defence of the Avdiivka fortified area," summed up Dmytro Sniehyrov.
- Over the last day, 103 combat engagements took place at the frontline. The Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 33 Russian attacks in the Avdiivka sector and eliminated 750 Russian servicemen.
- On January 20, the commander of the Tavria operational and strategic grouping of troops, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, said that Russian troops had increased the activity of combat aircraft in the Avdiivka sector.
