Tkachuk described the situation in the Kupyansk sector as difficult.
"The Russians have split our forces into two footholds. They are trying to reach the Oskil River and are suffering losses. Yesterday, they launched a mechanized assault, lost ground, and retreated, but they keep attacking in different ways.
They're trying to break through to the Oskil River crossing, where all the bridges have been destroyed. There are only makeshift dams and pipes left. The water level has risen after recent rains, and they are trying to break through and establish a foothold on the eastern bank. From there, they plan to attack our positions and push us back to the western bank," he explained.
