Russian propaganda spreads fake about Ukrainian forces using civilians as shields
Russian propagandists spread disinformation claiming Ukrainian Armed Forces have forbidden civilians in Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region, from leaving the city to use them as “human shields”
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Kremlin propagandists claim that Ukrainian forces block civilian exits from Kostyantynivka and have “blocking units” stationed at city exits to hide behind civilians.
On Thursday, May 29, the Center for Countering Disinformation refuted this information and emphasized that evacuation from Kostyantynivka and nearby settlements of the Kostyantynivka community is ongoing. Local authorities, police, and law enforcement actively organize evacuation trips, provide transportation, and ensure humanitarian support and escort to safe areas.
“This kind of lie by Russia covers its own attempts to sabotage civilian evacuation from dangerous zones. Russia is interested in keeping people in combat areas to restrain Ukrainian military actions,” the statement says.
- On May 16, forced evacuation of families with children was announced in Oleksiivka-Druzhkivka and several villages of the Shakhtarsk community in Donetsk, which are under constant shelling.
- On May 27, Russian propaganda again launched a disinformation campaign, accusing Ukrainian forces of mass killings near Kursk to justify attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
