Russia pushes 'Ukrainian atrocities in Kursk region' narrative to justify its attacks
Russian propagandists have once again launched a disinformation campaign against the Ukrainian Armed Forces, alleging mass killings in the Kursk region amid attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine
The Center for Countering Disinformation reported the information.
Russian media have resumed a disinformation campaign against the Ukraine Armed Forces, spreading fakes about alleged massacres of civilians in the Kursk region. Statements by the prosecutor of the Kursk region, Aleksey Tsukanov, are particularly actively quoted, who claims that “Ukrainian Nazis, intent on genocide of Russians, are deliberately killing the peaceful Russian population, including children, women, and the elderly.”
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, such statements are an attempt by Russia to divert attention, including that of the international community, from its massive drone and missile strikes on civilian objects in Ukraine.
"In addition, propagandists are again throwing old fakes into the information space about the alleged 'murder of a pregnant woman,' 'pensioners,' etc. At the same time, there has been and still is no evidence of all these 'crimes'," the message reads.
- On May 21, the Center for Countering Disinformation refuted the fake spread by pro-Russian Telegram channels about the alleged reprisal by Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen against a civilian resident of Kharkiv for refusing to say "Glory to Ukraine."
