Ukrainian Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrskyi has called for improved troop training, increased UAV presence supported by trained operators, and enhanced asymmetric tactics to counter Russian forces

He wrote about this on Telegram.

"I worked in another very important and dangerous area. The enemy is also focusing its efforts to break through Ukrainian defenses to the west of Bakhmut, gain access to the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal, seize Chasiv Yar, and create conditions for further advancement to the Kramatorsk agglomeration," the chief reported.

According to Syrskyi, Russian plans are hampered by the heroic defense of Ukrainian brigades, which "literally bite into the ground, holding back the enemy's daily attacks."

He noted that using their numerical superiority and various motivational factors, including executions, separate groups of Russian infantry reached the Novyi neighborhood, but were destroyed by FPV kamikaze strikes and artillery fire.

Syrskyi emphasized that the threat remains relevant, given that Russia's top military leadership has set a goal for its troops to capture Chasiv Yar by May 9.

In order to adequately respond to Russian forces' actions and strengthen Ukrainian troops' defense in this area, measures were taken to significantly reinforce the brigades with ammunition, drones, and electronic warfare equipment.

"The main conclusion from the two-day work at the front is the need to improve training quality, including the moral and psychological component, increase the number of high-tech unmanned systems for various purposes with trained operators, and improve the quality of asymmetric actions to reduce the enemy's combat potential," the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief said.

Ukrainian Defense Forces keep taking organizational measures with a focus on improving management efficiency, eliminating duplication, and directing the freed-up resources to support combat units.

"The main task of these measures is to increase Ukrainian troops' combat capability, save Ukrainian soldiers' lives, disrupt the enemy's plans, and ensure the reserves are trained," Syrskyi summarized.

  • During the past day, 76 combat clashes took place at the front. In the direction of Bakhmut, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 36 attacks.
