Russian attacks cause major air pollution in Kyiv city and region
On June 6 and 10, Russian drone attacks released 1,902 tons of harmful substances into the air in Kyiv and the surrounding region
This was reported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
"In June 2025, Kyiv and Kyiv region became the epicenter of one of the most destructive Russian drone attacks. In just a few days — on June 6 and 10 alone — 1,902 tons of harmful substances were released into the air of the capital region," the report states.
It is emphasized that the region suffered the greatest environmental damage in June due to Russia's massive attack. The losses exceeded UAH 5.7 million.
"All of these incidents were accompanied by unorganized emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere — without filtration, under wartime conditions. There were large-scale fires involving fuel, building materials, plastics, and equipment," the agency stressed.
- On the evening of June 9, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with strike drones. Two people were killed in Odesa, with injuries and destruction reported in Kyiv, Kyiv region, Chernihiv region, and Dnipropetrovsk region.
- Russian attacks on Ukraine during the night of June 10 caused damage to the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv and the iconic Odesa Film Studio. The State Film Agency called this "an aggression against Ukraine’s heritage and future."
