Russian army tries to break through Ukrainian defense 20 times in Novopavlivka sector - General Staff

Russian attacks across Ukraine

Over the past day, Russia launched 87 missile strikes, 110 airstrikes, and 39 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. On March 22, the Russian army carried out the largest attack in recent times - during a combined attack, the invading forces launched 63 UAVs and 88 missiles of various types.

As a result, a number of regions faced problems with power supply, and the enemy deliberately targeted our country's energy facilities. Unfortunately, there are many wounded and dead among the civilian population. A number of private and multi-storey buildings were destroyed and damaged, as well as civilian infrastructure. Work to eliminate the consequences of the terrorist attack is ongoing.

Frontline situation 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 20 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, the Russian troops, with the support of aviation, made 3 unsuccessful assaults on the Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Synkivka, Tabaivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian troops repelled five enemy attacks near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region, and Spirne, Donetsk region, where the Russian army, supported by air power, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. More than 10 localities suffered from artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian troops repelled two Russian attacks near Klishchiivka, Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled almost 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Berdychi, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. About 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane, and Urozhaine, where the Russian troops, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense over 20 times. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russia attacked the Ukrainian troops’ positions 7 times with the support of aviation near Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, Russia did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions during the day. Over 5 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 13 Russian military positions.

Missile troops hit two manpower concentration areas, an air defense facility, and 4 important Russian targets.

• There were 67 combat engagements at the front over the last day. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 14 Russian attacks in the Bakhmut sector.
