Russia tries to advance to Toretsk from nearby villages, Ukraine repels massive attack
On the morning of August 18, Ukraine's Defence Forces repelled a massive attack by the Russian army near the settlements of Pivnichne and Zalizne in the Donetsk region

This was reported by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"This morning, the enemy launched a massive attack near the settlements of Pivnichne and Zalizne in the Donetsk region. In particular, the Russian occupiers, with the support of an armoured group of 12 vehicles, tried to break through the positions of the Ukrainian Defence Forces and advance towards Toretsk," the statement said.
The Ukrainian soldiers reportedly repelled the attack with skilful and coordinated actions and prevented the loss of positions.
During the battle, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 10 pieces of equipment and neutralised 68 Russian soldiers, 41 of them irretrievably.
- Over the past day, 139 combat clashes were recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian front. Russian forces continue to attack most actively in the Pokrovsk sector.
