72 combat clashes at front: Toretsk, Pokrovsk sectors remain hottest - Ukraine's General Staff

Since the beginning of the day on August 17, the number of combat clashes has increased to 72. Russian troops are advancing most actively in the Pokrovsk sector

This is stated in the General Staff's report as of 16:00.

Russian troops continue to use aircraft and artillery along the border of Sumy region. In particular, the areas of the settlements of Fotovizh, Bachivsk, Druzhba, Novovasylivka, Velyka Berizka, Romashkove, Prohres, Popivka, Tymofiivka, and Pokrovka came under artillery fire.

Russian aircraft also struck with guided bombs in the areas of Zarutske, Starykove, Khotyn, Yunakivka, and Basivka.

In addition, today Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia region with aircraft, dropping three guided bombs in the area of Novodanilivka, and fired unguided missiles at Novoandriivka and Kamianske.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv sector, Russian terrorists stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops four times in the areas of Vovchansk and Lypky four times today. The battle is still ongoing in Vovchansk.

In the Kupyansk sector, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions four times. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy attacks near Berestove and in the direction of Lozova. Two firefights in the area of Stelmakhivka are still ongoing.

In the Lyman sector, hostile attacks continue in the vicinity of Makiivka, Nevske, Hrekivka, Novoiehorivka, and Dibrova. Since the beginning of the day, 14 combat engagements have taken place in this sector, and five are still ongoing. The situation is under control, according to the General Staff.

In the Siversk sector, Russian enemy is attacking near Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Vyimka and Pereyizne. Russia tried to break through the Ukrainian defences six times, but the Defence Forces repelled all attacks.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian invaders carried out four assault operations near Chasiv Yar. Three engagements are still ongoing.

The Toretsk sector remains one of the hottest and priority areas for the Russian army. The number of enemy attacks here is currently seven. Today, Russia is mainly attacking near the settlements of Pivnichne, Toretsk and Zalizne, and Ukrainian defenders are giving a worthy fight back. Six combat engagements have already been completed. The aggressor's aircraft also struck Kurdyumivka with unguided aerial missiles.

The Pokrovsk sector recorded the highest number of combat engagements. Thus, since the beginning of the day, Russia made 25 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Novotroitske, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Mykolaivka, Zhelanne, Zavitne and attacked towards Zelene Pole. Ukrainian defence forces have already repelled 25 enemy attacks, and 11 engagements are still ongoing. Oleksandropil was subjected to an air strike by Russian proxies.

In the Kurakhove sector, Russian invaders attacked Ukrainian units nine times, trying to advance near Kostiantynivka. A guided aerial bomb attack was carried out on Memryk.

In the Vremivka sector, Russian invaders tried to attack in the direction of Vuhledar, with one unsuccessful attempt.

In the Prydniprovsky sector, Ukrainian defenders also repelled one enemy attack.

The situation in other sectors remained unchanged.

  • Over the past 24 hours, the Russian army lost several units of its equipment and 1,230 servicemen on the frontline in Ukraine.
