Russia shoots down its own Su-30 fighter jet over occupied Crimea
On Friday, October 17, the Russian Federation shot down its own Su-30SM aircraft, which was on a mission over the temporarily occupied Crimea
Ukraine's Naval Forces reported the information.
"Intelligence assets of the Ukrainian Navy obtained a radio intercept about the ignition of two engines and the ejection of the crew of the Russian Su-30SM aircraft, which was carrying out a mission in the northwestern part of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The aircraft likely crashed for unknown reasons," the Ukrainian Navy stated.
They suggested that the Russian army, while repelling a UAV attack using air defense systems, shot down its own multi-purpose fighter jet.
According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff, Russia has lost 427 aircraft since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
On September 25, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down a Russian Su-34 aircraft in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
