Russia loses air defense equipment, 11 tanks, and 1,160 soldiers in one day – General Staff 

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the information.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to March 17, 2024, amounted to:

• personnel – about 430,740 (+1,160)
• tanks ‒ 6,790 (+11) 
• armored fighting vehicles ‒ 12,997 (+24)
• artillery systems – 10,634 (+38) 
• MLRS – 1017
• air defense systems ‒ 720 (+1)
• aircraft – 347 
• helicopters – 325 
• UAVs operational-tactical level – 8,272 (+4)
• cruise missiles ‒ 1,922
• warships/boats ‒ 26 
• submarines - 1
• vehicles and fuel tanks – 14,073 (+49) 
• special equipment ‒ 1,723 (+11) 

Frontline update 

According to the General Staff, near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas. Ukrainian defenders stopped 2 Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups’ attempts to penetrate Stara Huta and Brusky settlements of the Sumy region. 

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops did not conduct any offensives. 

In the Lyman direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 1 attack near the settlement of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukraine's Armed Forces repulsed 5 attacks near Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, the Ukrainian forces rebuffed 11 Russia's attacks near Berdychi, Nevelske, Tonenke and Pervomayske.

In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukraine's defense forces are holding back the Russian troops near Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, where Russian troops tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian army 28 times.

In the Orikhiv direction, Russian occupying forces attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 4 times near Robotyne and Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Kherson direction, Russia still seeks to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Over the past day, 2 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of Ukrainian troops were made.

Russia attacks Ukraine with drones: Ukrainian Armed Forces target 6 Russian personnel concentrations

Russia conducted a total of 6 missile strikes and 62 air assaults, along with 125 MLRS attacks on Ukrainian military positions and civilian areas. There have been casualties among civilians due to these terrorist attacks.

During the night, Russian forces launched an assault on Ukraine, deploying 16 Shahed-type UAVs. Ukrainian air defense successfully neutralized 14 of these attack drones.

In the past day, airstrikes hit 27 settlements across different regions.

Around 140 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under Russian artillery fire.

Throughout the day, Ukrainian Defense Forces aircraft targeted four Russian personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentrations.

Ukrainian missile units struck a command post, two personnel concentrations, and one air defense system.

• During the night of March 16 to 17, Russian troops launched Shahed attacks, targeting Odesa.
