Russia loses 1,130 soldiers, 70 armored vehicles, and 53 artillery systems in one day – General Staff

The Ukrainian soldiers repelled Russian attacks in 8 directions during the past day. There were 66 combat clashes on the frontline, and the Russian army lost 1,130 fighters

This was reported on February 21 by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total number of Russian combat losses from 24.02.22 to 21.02.24 was approximately:

  • personnel – about 406,080 (+1,130)
  • tanks – 6,516 (+13)
  • combat personnel vehicles – 12,338 (+70)
  • artillery systems – 9,826 (+53)
  • MLRS – 992 (+4)
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems – 678 (+3)
  • aircraft – 338 (+0)
  • helicopters – 325 (+0)
  • UAVs of the operational-tactical level – 7,560 (+39)
  • cruise missiles – 1,903 (+1)
  • warships/boats – 25 (+0)
  • submarines – 1 (+0)
  • vehicles and fuel tanks – 12,861 (+56)
  • special equipment – 1,558 (+7)

Defense forces repel Russian attacks in 8 directions, mainly in Marinka

Thus, according to the General Staff, the operational situation has not changed in the area of the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group in the Kupyansk direction, the Russian troops made 2 unsuccessful offensive attempts in the area of Synkivka, Kharkiv region. 

In the Lyman direction, the Russian soldiers, with the support of aviation, attacked Ukrainian units 8 times near Terny, Vyimka, Donetsk region, and Bilohorivka, Luhansk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 2 Russia's attacks in the areas of Ivanivske in the Donetsk region. 

In the Avdiivka direction, in the area of responsibility of the Tavria operational-strategic group, Ukraine's defenders rebuffed 13 hostile attacks near Lastochkyne, Sieverne, Stepove, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the Russian enemy near Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where they repelled 20 attacks.

In the Novopavlivka direction, the Russian army tried to improve its tactical position 7 times to the south of Prechystivka and Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repulsed 7 Russia's attacks near Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and repel the attacks of the occupation forces. Despite significant losses, Russia's army keeps trying to drive Ukrainian units out of their positions. Thus, over the past day, they made 1 unsuccessful assault.

Russian forces launch 5 missile and 125 air strikes in Ukraine

Over the past day, 66 combat engagements occurred. The adversary conducted a total of 5 missile strikes, 125 airstrikes, and shelled our troops' positions and settlements 124 times using MLRS.

During the night, Russian invaders once again targeted Ukraine, deploying Shahed-136/131 UAVs. Further details on the attack are being clarified.

Aerial strikes targeted locations including Hrachivka, Chuhunivka, Fedorivka, Katerynivka, Shevchenkove, Ivanivka, Hlushkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane in the Kharkiv region; Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Vesele, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar, Oleksandropil, Ocheretyne, Orlivka, Lastochkyne, Tonenke, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Urozhaine, Staromayorske in the Donetsk region; Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region; Sablukivka in the Kherson region.

Artillery fire targeted over 110 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

Ukrainian forces target 9 Russian military positions

In the past day, the Defense Forces' aviation struck 10 enemy personnel concentration points and targeted 5 anti-aircraft missile systems.

Missile troops successfully hit 9 areas holding personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, along with 1 fuel depot, and 12 enemy artillery positions.

  • On February 20, there were 50 confrontations on the front lines. Russian forces attempted 43 assaults on defense force positions, with Marinka and Avdiivka facing the most significant number of attacks.
