
Russia’s attack on Kyiv region with drones, missiles injures residents, sparks fires

Consequences of the Russian attack on Kyiv
At around 10:00 p.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that air defense was operating in the capital.
At 10:07 p.m., the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported that the wreckage of a Russian UAV had fallen in the Holosiivskyi district in an open area.
Within 10 minutes, it was reported that a car was damaged in the Holosiivskyi district as a result of the falling debris. It did not catch fire.
At 00:41, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on the work of air defense in the capital.
At 1:03 a.m., Klitschko reported explosions in the capital, and air defense was working. Before that, the Air Force reported a high-speed target in the Kyiv region.
At 1:10 a.m., the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration informed that debris had fallen in the Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. The mayor of Kyiv clarified that medics were called to Sviatoshynskyi district.
Tkachenko later reported that a missile fragment fell in the Obolon district. He also wrote about fires at two addresses in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
At 1:37 a.m., the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration informed that a UAV debris had fallen on a residential building in Solomianskyi district. Klitschko clarified that, preliminarily, the wreckage fell on the top floor of a residential building. Emergency services are on their way to the scene.
A few minutes later, it was reported that debris had fallen at another address in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
At the same time, Klitschko reported two victims in the Dniprovskyi district.
“In Dniprovskyi district, fires were recorded on the first and last floors of a residential building,” Tkachenko wrote.
According to Klitschko, a non-residential building in Sviatoshynskyi district is also on fire.
At 2:13 a.m., Klitschko wrote about the work of air defense in Obolon.
At 2:16 a.m., Espreso correspondents reported the sound of an explosion in the capital.
As of 2:24 a.m., according to Tkachenko, there were four victims in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv. They were diagnosed with an acute stress reaction and were not hospitalized.
"Burning of debris was recorded in Obolon district. The number of victims of the Russian attack increased to 8 people. Two are hospitalized. Others were treated by medics on the spot," Klitschko reported at 2:36 a.m.
Debris also fell in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital.
At 2:53 a.m., the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that debris had fallen in an open area in the Obolon district. Shortly afterward, another fall of debris was reported at another address. A fire was also reported in a residential building.
"Debris fell on a shopping center in the Obolon district. And also on a residential building in Obolon. Emergency services are on their way," Klitschko added.
The State Emergency Service reported on the consequences of the Russian attack as of 5:22 a.m. Rescuers are eliminating the consequences at several locations in the city:
- in Solomianskyi district, a fire broke out in apartments on the 4th and 5th floors of a five-story residential building. It was extinguished. Rescuers rescued a man with a preliminary diagnosis of combustion product poisoning;
- in Obolon district, balconies in a nine-story building caught fire on the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th floors. Rescuers took three people out into the fresh air, and four others sought medical attention with a preliminary diagnosis of acute stress reaction. The fire has been extinguished;
- A fire broke out in a one-story non-residential building storing paint and varnish materials in Sviatoshynskyi district. The work is ongoing.

Consequences of the Russian attack in Kyiv region
According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, a 54-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were wounded in a hostile attack in Brovary district. Both sustained shrapnel wounds to the thigh. The victims were hospitalized in a local hospital.
A private house and a car were damaged.
At 1:02 a.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration wrote about the work of air defense in the region.
According to the police in Kyiv region, as of the morning of May 24, three people were reported wounded in the attack.
In Brovary district, a man and a woman were injured as a result of the fall of debris from an enemy drone. The injured were hospitalized.
A car and a private house were also damaged.
In Boryspil district, a 43-year-old woman was injured. The victim was hospitalized in a Kyiv hospital.
A private house was damaged.
In Vyshhorod district, two private houses were damaged.
"Patrol police response teams, investigative teams, and the State Emergency Service continue to work at the scene. Investigators have opened criminal proceedings over the war crimes under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the police added.
Attack on port infrastructure in Odesa region
According to the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on the night of May 24, Russia attacked the region with strike drones. The enemy targeted port infrastructure facilities.
“A pre-trial investigation has been launched under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office regarding the commission of war crimes (Part 1, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the statement says.
Zelenskyy’s response
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the enemy attack on Ukraine.
“With each such strike, the world becomes more convinced that the reason for prolonging the war lies in Moscow. Ukraine has repeatedly proposed a ceasefire—both a full one and in the skies. All of this has been ignored. It is clear that much stronger pressure must be put on Russia to achieve results and start real diplomacy,” the head of state said.
He added that Ukraine is awaiting sanctions from the United States, Europe, and other partners.
“Only additional sanctions against key sectors of the Russian economy will force Moscow to cease fire,” the president concluded.
- On the night of May 23, the Russian army attacked Ukraine with 175 Shahed drones, of which 150 were successfully shot down by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
