Borrell, EU ministers to discuss Ukraine's air defense with FM Kuleba amid Russian escalation

He said that as Russia has stepped up its aggression and renewed massive attacks on civilian infrastructure across Ukraine, including hydroelectric power plants, Ukrainians need to strengthen their air defense.
According to Borrell, air defense will be the topic of an informal meeting with Dmytro Kuleba and EU foreign ministers on Thursday, August 29.
“I reiterate that lifting restrictions on the use of capabilities against vs the Russian military involved in aggression against Ukraine, in accordance with international law, would strengthen Ukrainian self-defence, safe lives and reduce destruction in Ukraine,” Borrell emphasized.
- In the evening of August 25, the Russian army launched attack UAVs at Ukraine. In the morning of August 26, 11 Russian Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 aircraft were spotted. The attack resulted in deaths and injuries, and destruction in various regions.
- On August 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a press conference after the massive Russian attack. According to him, Russia launched 127 missiles of various types and 109 drones at the territory of Ukraine.
