Rare earth metals deal may come with strict conditions, warns analyst
Political analyst Ihor Chalenko suggests the rare earth metals agreement could include informal demands involving specific companies or officials in Ukraine
He stated this during a broadcast on the Espreso TV channel.
"In this situation, we must not lose ourselves because this framework agreement is much simpler than even the 28 security agreements we signed last year," Chalenko remarked.
According to the analyst, Trump needs to sign an agreement with Ukraine on rare earth metals to show the American public that Biden’s mistakes are supposedly being corrected and that the US will recover its funds.
"But I wouldn’t be surprised if, along with this framework agreement, there are a number of informal, verbal requirements regarding the presence of certain individuals or specific companies directly in Ukraine. This could concern the public sector or monopolies. We can already see various attempts to test the ground, whether certain assets can be nationalized or reprivatized," Chalenko emphasized.
The head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies also suggested that "behind all this talk about rare earth metals, there may be very tough discussions about integrating certain representatives of the American establishment directly into Ukraine from a business perspective. We will learn about this in the coming years, and it will be covered by great secrecy."
- President of the United States Donald Trump will consider resuming aid to Ukraine if peace negotiations are organized and "confidence-building measures" are implemented.
