Putin prepares for battle using "marching battalions" – Information Resistance
Oleksandr Kovalenko, military-political analyst from the Information Resistance group, warns that the key issue in 2025 will be the overwhelming number of Russian troops on the battlefield
He shared this insight on Espreso TV.
"We’re facing a war fought with human waves. That's the takeaway from Putin's decree expanding the Russian military. Russia’s ground forces now stand at 1.5 million. To fully equip these troops, you’d need around 1,875 battalion tactical groups. For these groups to be effective, they’d require over 20,000 tanks – a number Russia simply doesn’t have,” Kovalenko stressed.
According to the analyst from Information Resistance, Putin is gearing up for combat with so-called "marching battalions."
"When it comes to armored vehicles like the BMP-1, BMP-2, and BMD, a fully equipped army should have around 62,000 units. Even the Soviet Army never had numbers like that. So, Putin is planning to fight using these marching battalions – large infantry columns with minimal equipment. That’s the battlefield strategy he’s leaning toward," Kovalenko explained.
He also noted that Ukraine's Defense Forces must brace for a surge in Russian manpower soon. In 2025, the sheer size of Russia's military will be the main challenge.
- Russian leader Vladimir Putin recently signed a decree to expand his forces by 180,000, bringing the total number of personnel to 2.39 million.
