No signs Ukraine-Russia war will end anytime soon — Defense Express editor-in-chief
Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleh Katkov believes there are currently no signs that the Russia-Ukraine war will end in the short term
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"Regarding the agreements, as I understand it, they concern restrictions on the use of long-range weapons to target certain objects in rear areas and ensuring free navigation in the Black Sea. No other restrictions are being discussed. There is no talk of a ceasefire or a general slowdown in combat operations—only agreements on limiting certain types of strikes. Air raid sirens will continue to sound in both Ukraine and Russia, and fighting on the front line will persist. The war is not ending. There are no signs that it may be over in the short term," Katkov explained.
The expert also noted that there is currently no real subject for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
"If we are talking about certain agreements on strike limitations, both we and the Russians understand that they will not be upheld. Today, there is simply no subject for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Therefore, any military operations in this war will continue," he concluded.
On the night of March 19, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that, following an order from dictator Vladimir Putin, it allegedly shot down seven of its own drones that were flying toward energy facilities in Ukraine.
On March 21, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that the Russian army is currently “continuing to refrain” from striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in accordance with an agreement with the United States.
However, on March 26, Presidential Communications Advisor Dmytro Lytvyn stated that since March 18, the Russian army has shelled Ukraine’s energy facilities at least eight times.
