Russia reports shooting down own drones aimed at Ukraine after Putin-Trump call, Ukraine responds
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on the night of March 19, following an order from Vladimir Putin, it allegedly shot down seven of its own drones that were heading toward Ukraine’s energy facilities
This was reported by Russia’s Defense Ministry.
According to the Russian ministry, after a phone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin leader allegedly ordered to halt strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
At that moment, according to Russian claims, seven attack drones were in the air, targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities linked to the defense industry in the Mykolaiv region.
"Russia’s air defense forces were ordered to neutralize the unmanned aerial vehicles; six were shot down by Pantsir air defense missile systems, and one by an on-duty Russian Aerospace Forces fighter jet," the ministry claimed.
Center for Countering Disinformation’s response
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, responded to the Russian ministry’s statement.
"It turns out that after the Russian Defense Ministry’s announcement about halting attacks on energy infrastructure and mentioning the 'Ukrainian defense industry,' any new attack on Ukraine would mean they are deliberately targeting civilians. I believe it is crucial to document this," he wrote.
